Are you ready?

While America heats up this summer with scorching temperatures, signs that civilation is cracking are appearing all around us.  With the men and woman in black robes providing us rulings that are anything but constitutional, two political parties doing nothing but raising money to try and seize control of Washington DC, and a power grid that is crumbling under summer heat it is easy to see how the facade is coming off.

Maybe the European debt crisis is to far away to think that could effect you, perhaps 36,000 dead in Mexico over the last two years from a “drug war” is just some other third world countries mess.  When Australia passes a law that fines citizens up to 1 million dollars for criticizing there new “environmental tax”, you think that is a good idea.

How about the Olympic games in London and the positioning of hundreds of surface to air rockets on the ground, and thousands of drones in the sky.  Better yet the improving job market here in America, and the improving housing market may be providing you a false sense that hope and change really is working.

Regardless of what you see as truth and reality or as the grim forbearance of a world wide collapse ahead, I would suggest now is a good time to make sure you have preparation “ducks in a row”.

Basics, Basics, Basics!  Start with the “five”.

Dehydrated and Freeze Dried Food:

How is your food storage?  Do you have some, and if you do is it enough for you and your family with extra to barter with?  Does is have variety, spices, and enough calories to help maintain you. Over the last year I have seen the major supplies of this type of food such as Mountain House, Shelf Reliance, Efoods Direct, and Harmony all come out with new recipes, and basic ingredients.  Today you can get yogurt bites, butter, sour cream, diced tomatoes, and other 20 year shelf life products that you could not get before.

Is your food stored in a safe location, free of pests, and able to be defended.  Do you have a back up “stash” that you know you can get to and rely on when the time comes.  Is it time to rotate some of the product, and maybe safe money on your grocery bills for a few months.  If you do not think you have enough it may be shopping time to get it delivered to you while trucks are still running and the electric power grid is still up.

Water:

As basic and important as it gets.  Remember a minimum amount of water needed for a “normal” climate is one gallon of water per person per day to cook and drink.  If you are storing water for a family of four for a month you need to have 120 gallons of water either in one gallon plastic containers, 55 gallon drums, or some other reliable storage method.  You will not be able to cook your dehydrated food source without water.

You should have a minimum of one water filtration system, either a pro-pure, Big Berkley, or portable water bottles. Remember rain water collection systems from your roof top, how to shut off water to your house so that you can use the pipes to hold water for you, and other methods to make sure water will be at your finger tips.

This is another one that you should have an emergency “stash” stored away.  If you have an RV, or a cabin is it fully stocked with water.  The first item that will disappear from stores shelf’s will be water, now is the time to have it.

Gear:

12 hours of night per day brings 12 hours of crime, theft, and evil into your lives every day.  What holds it at bay is your front door, a “police force”, a “criminal court system”, and self defense such as guns, and a power grid that brings light into the darkness.

What will happen when the power grid goes down, 911 is not answered, and the dead bolt on your front door is kicked in?  You need to have your self prepared with backup lighting systems, and your own “police level” self defense skills and weapons. I can not stress enough this country sits 96 hours away from complete anarchy when the power grid collapses.  You will be faced with the choices of having “government” protect you in FEMA camps, or being self sufficient and riding out the chaos in your own house, or chosen survival location.

If you are ready you will have guns, ammunition, lights, first aid supplies, night vision, communication, and all the supplies that I have written about purchased and stored away.  For refresher articles pull up the two week survival plan page or go to the training page on this web site and scroll through the article.  You should have solar power systems ready, batteries, fuel, propane, cook tops, survival vests, candles, and dozens of other necessities.  If you don’t I would suggest now is the time to go get them.

Maps:

If you can’t go on Google maps, your GPS does not work, and your cell phone turns into a paper weight how are you going to get around? Good old fashion paper maps, Thomasville guides, an atlas, all will become valuable in the near future.  Make sure you have a way to store them water tight, and transport them if needed. Now is a good time to know some “escape routes” if you live in a city, what roads can you use when the freeways become parking lots. I have about a dozen well known and scouted areas within 200 miles of me that if I can get to them I will feel safe living in them, do you?

Silver:

I am sure all of you have stored away a supply of one ounce .999 silver bullion coins to be used as the real money of the future and to barter with. In fact over the last few months as the price per ounce has fallen to the $28.00 levels we all have added to our supplies. It is inevitable that the dollar bill in your pocket is going to be further devalued, and ultimately replaced with some type of “world currency”, or “electronic exchange medium”. Do you think that when this change happens it will be good for whatever savings you have? If you do then I am not sure why you have read this far into my article. If you don’t then make sure your gold and silver stash is  plentiful, and secured which means in your possession not stored at a bank, safety deposit box, or paper forms.

Those are the five basics of survival preparation. Maybe today would be a good day to sit down and spend time honestly evaluating how your own preparation is and if needed put a plan together to improve it and get ready.

God Bless.
