December –Week in Review –Discernment and the Media

It is the trying times that tests men souls…..I reflect back this morning to mornings in my past.  When drugs and alcohol were in charge of my life and sin was rampant, my mornings were never considered the good part of the day.  Usually the 5:00am time was the toss and turn period.  I had not fallen asleep yet, still wired up from partying.  I wanted to sleep because at 7:00am the alarm clock was going to tell me to, but just could not sleep.  I would try the TV or radio to help get my mind off….my mind, never worked. After the final tossing and turning I would stumble out of bed and look in the mirror, the shame, guilt, and disbelieve would stare back at me.  Living in the flesh, no life at all, not God’s plan.

This morning, in fact all week, my life is completely different.  Waking up at 4:00am is great, I have energy, still have my cup of coffee, and the brain talking and self loathing has gone.  I sit down to prayer, and ask God for his will to be done not mine.  I pray to have the eyes to see it, the ears to hear it, and the wisdom to know it.  Praise God, for three years and one month ago getting me to my bottom, because it was only from there that this morning I can write with such passion on the  glory of God and living his plan daily.

I want to focus this week in review column on discernment and the media. First Discernment Definitions:

Biblical Definition:

Discernment  1 John 4:1-6 The ability to distinguish right from wrong, truth from error, and to give an immediate evaluation based on God;s word.  The ability to discern whether the source of an experience is Satan, self or God’s Spirit

Merriam-Webster definition:

1: the quality of being able to grasp and comprehend what is obscure : skill in discerning

2: an act of perceiving or discerning something

Merriam-Webster Synonyms:  wisdom, insight, perception, perceptiveness

Now that we have Discernment defined I want to explore one word that I think fits perfectly today’s mass media.  I consider the mass media: CNN, FOX News, MSNBC, NY Times,  CNBC, USA Today, AP, Reuters, Bloomberg, McClatchy, PBS, and NPR, along with most of the major cities newspapers and AM news radio stations.  The word that fits perfectly is PROPOGANDA.

Merriam-Webster Definition:

1: the spreading of ideas, information, or rumor for the purpose of helping or injuring an institution, a cause, or a person 2: ideas, facts, or allegations spread deliberately to further one’s cause or to damage an opposing cause; also : a public action having such an effect.

Nazi Germany Definition:

Propaganda is the art of persuasion – persuading others that your ‘side of the story’ is correct. Propaganda might take the form of persuading others that your military might is too great to be challenged; that your political might within a nation is too great or popular to challenge etc. In Nazi Germany, Dr Joseph Goebbels was in charge of propaganda. Goebbels official title was Minister of Propaganda and National Enlightenment. 

To ensure that everybody thought in the correct manner, Goebbels set up the Reich Chamber of Commerce in 1933. This organization dealt with literature, art, music, radio, film, newspapers etc. To produce anything that was in these groups, you had to be a member of the Reich Chamber. The Nazi Party decided if you had the right credentials to be a member. Any person who was not admitted was not allowed to have any work published or performed. Disobedience brought with it severe punishments. As a result of this policy, Nazi Germany introduced a system of censorship. You could only read, see and hear what the Nazis wanted you to read, see and hear. In this way, if you believed what you were told, the Nazi leaders logically assumed that opposition to their rule would be very small and practiced only by those on the very extreme who would be easy to catch.

Today is our government any different?  Our government has the Federal Communications Commission that grants licenses to those whom pay the government money and agree to adhere to rules and regulations on what can and can not be said on the airwaves.  If you violate the rules or do not pay the costs of the license it is removed and you are censored and punished.  I would argue that anyone with the gift of discernment can see as plain as day what was called Propaganda in Nazi Germany today we call it “the fairness doctrine”, or censorship of certain views that those within power in Washington view as “un-American”.

Three times this past week I woke up and watched TV for 15 minutes at about 4:00am Pacific Time.  I went from CNN to MSNBC, to CNBC, to FOX News.  You begin to realize the depth of the propaganda when every channel is reporting the exact same stories.  How can that be? How can in this world of 6 billion people, that every channel, the first thing in the morning is talking about the exact same “stories” I listenend to:

1. Michelle Obama’s declaration of a “childhood obesity crisis”
2. President Obama’s Shift to a more moderate position on tax cuts
3. The “Economic Recovery” happening, supported by every channel interviewing their own “expert”
4. Congress and Senate “working hard” to pass legislation before the “Holiday”.

Fluff and Propaganda, no stories that I heard on items such as:

1. 9.8% unemployment…the real number is 20%+.
2. California and other states sitting at the alter of Bankruptcy Court
3. The Federal Reserve giving trillions to foreign banks
4. ALL basic commodities at or near LIFE TIME high prices

Those that have been gifted with discernment such as me can so clearly see what is happening to our country, and it is being placed into overdrive.  You are being lied to on a daily basis by all our mass media, they are receiving marching orders from the same play sheet, a play sheet meant to keep you the American citizens in this state of denial and “fog”, while behind the scenes every penny is being taken from you and the American dream once known as “liberty” is being destroyed, one vote in congress, one presidential signature at a time.
