The Amazing Bean

This morning I have spent time simmering and preparing “Chris’s baked beans”.  For all of you out there whom have cooked from scratch with pinto, black, or lima beans you can understand when I say it is a labor of love.  I was hit with this thought of how can a put a positive spin on what is about to happen to my beans with the passage of SB510, the “food safety law”.  The irony of those whom have read the bill and not just listened to what the media wants you to think, is that this bill will kill my ability to grow by own beans, or go to my local farmers market to buy them.  Positive…Positive…Okay here is positive.  The nutritional value of beans is great.  For 1/4 cup … Read entire article »

Pleasanton CA, your typical American city dying a slow death.

Pleasanton CA, your typical American city dying a slow death.

Money magazine proclaimed a few years ago that Pleasanton California was the best mid sized city in America.  They looked at categories such as finances, housing, jobs, education, and quality of life.  They then looked at the cities averages versus the averages in the rest of the United States.  Who could argue, Pleasanton was a great place in 2007. Turn the clock forward to today.  If one did the same analysis Pleasanton still might come out … Read entire article »

Father…Help us see our sinfull behaviors

Chris Mosser Faith & Survival November 25th 2010 Today we celebrate Thanksgiving in America.  A day in which we are to give thanks for so much: The Pilgrims who journeyed from England to settle at Plymouth Rock. The Native American Indians whom taught them how to plant corn, proper storage techniques, and hunting skills to survive the harsh winters. The faith and fortitude of those original settlers that helped give birth to the greatest country known to mankind. Today we celebrate this by: Sloth–Sitting around on our chairs and couches Gluttony–Eating far to much food Drunkenness–Most having to much wine in attempts to cope with the family interactions Idolatry–Spending hours watching sport athletes run around on the field placing them as our false idol’s Greed–Making plans on how to buy stuff on the day after Thanksgiving Pride and Ego–Waking up at 4am tomorrow … Read entire article »

Turn off the blue glowing TV

How did mankind ever advance over the past thousands of years? How did we spend our time after work in the 1700’s?  When the chicken’s eggs where harvested and the cow’s where milked, did we SIT DOWN ON THE LAZYBOY AND TURN on the TV set.  No of course not.  How did we get our information, know what to buy, who to Vote for, or who to idolize without the “Blue Glow” being beamed into our brains nightly.  As a recovering alcoholic one very important lesson I learned was that I had to change to everything in my life if I wanted a chance, and a small chance at that, of gaining sobriety. For me, that meant writing down on paper what I did on a “typical” day, and then on the same … Read entire article »

When do we “Turn” and “Shift” our lives?

By Chris Mosser, Faith & Survival, Nov 20th 2010 We all face the fork in the road. It is a point at which we must decide which way to go.  Today we pull up our GPS map, research Google Earth, rely on TOM TOM , and then make our decision.  It was not always like this, technology has become our ruler, it tells us what to do and we tend to follow it blindly.  Let’s move the clock back 100 years.  When we hit that same fork in the road what did we do.  We looked at where the sun was in the sky, where the moss was on the rock, and oh we asked our neighbors for help.  For me I like how we approached it 100 years ago, how … Read entire article »

When do we no longer have trust in the Dollar?

That is a deep question is it not. Let’s start with the Webster definition:  Trust 1: assured reliance on the character, ability, strength, or truth of someone or something b : one in which confidence is placed 2a : dependence on something future or contingent : hope b : reliance on future payment for property (as merchandise) delivered : credit <bought furniture on trust>  Okay, so with every twenty in my pocket or in my savings account I need to have assured reliance that it is actually worth twenty dollars.  I also have to have reliance on its future ability for a payment.   When I look at that twenty dollar bill it states such words as: Federal Reserve Note This note is legal tender for all debts, public and private In God We Trust The United States of … Read entire article »
